Sundaikkai Mor Kuzhambu..

This is a very typical item prepared for Dwadashi Paaranai. Very healthy + known to do good to intestine/liver & packed with pro-biotics.



  1.  White Pumpkin / Winter melon - 250 gms - peeled & cubed.
  2. Grated Coconut 3/4th cup
  3. Dried Turkey Berry or Sundaikkai Vathal-  10-15 nos.
  4. Green Chilies - 1-2 nos.
  5. Fried Bengal Gram or Pottu kadalai - 1 tbsp
  6. Coconut oil - 1-2 tbsps
  7. Curry leaves -  10-15 leaflets
  8. Dried red chilies - 1 
  9. Mustard Seeds - 1 tbsp
  10. Turmeric - 1 tea spoon
  11. Salt - t taste
  12. (Sour) Curd - 1 cup

  1. Add  water, salt, turmeric powder and bring it to a boil.
  2. Add cubed winter melon pieces and bring it to a boil.
  3. In the meantime add 2 green Chilies  , coconut , fried Bengal gram and grind to a paste.
  4. Churn curd in a vessel and add this ground mixture.
  5. Add this curd / ground mixture to winter melon.
  6. After adding curd it should not boil too much.
  7. When  it raises and tries to boil turn ff the fire.
  8. Now add 2+ tbsp of coconut oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves & dry chilies.
  9. Now let mustard seeds splutter.
  10. Add this seasoning to your Mor Kuzhambu or Kadi.
  11. Finally fry those 10+ sundaikkai and let it fry well in oil and become black.
  12. Add this to the above Khadi or Kuzhambu.

Sweet smelling delicious more kuzhambu is ready .

Note: If not for paaranai(Dwadashi) the last step is not needed.
Note: Some people add cumin seeds while grinding - but my mother does not.
